The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh to visit Dartington Hall

Her Majesty, the Queen, and His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh will be visiting Dartington on Thursday, 11th March, 2010, as part of a tour of several locations in Devon, including: St. Loyes in Exeter, Wyvern Barracks and Wrigley’s in Plymouth.

They will arrive at the main entrance to the courtyard at Dartington at approximately 12:05pm and will depart at around 2:00pm. The Royal Party will be here for a private luncheon in the Great Hall attended by Dartington Trustees, local civic dignitaries, guests, and Dartington supporters and staff members.

Local Dartington artist and potter, Marianne de Trey, will present the Queen with one of her works at the luncheon. Dartington has also commissioned a bronze maquette of the horse sculpture, Megalith Still, by local artist, Andrew Lacey. The sculpture is a smaller version of the one currently displayed at the entrance to the courtyard on the Dartington estate. This sculpture will commemorate the Queen’s visit to Dartington, and will be unveiled after the luncheon.

Because we expect a big turnout for the royal visit we recommend that visitors arrive by 11:15am at the main entrance to the courtyard at Dartington. The royal party will depart around 2:05pm. Visitors can view their departure from the Great Lawn, near the White Hart bar and restaurant.

Photography will be allowed as the Queen arrives and departs from the estate. No cameras or photographs will be allowed within the Great Hall or the main courtyard area of Dartington.

Children are welcome to attend provided they are supervised by adults.

Her Majesty may stop and talk to some of the members of the crowd briefly after she arrives at the main entrance to Dartington. She may choose to accept flowers or gifts at that time, but we can’t guarantee that she will do so.

During the visit the grounds and gardens of the estate will be open with some restrictions: Signs will be posted around the estate showing restricted areas, and there will be extra security around the grounds and the estate during the time the Royal Party is here.

For more information about the Royal Visit, please call the Welcome Centre: 01803 847000.
