Welcome to Dartington Hall

The 1200-acre Dartington Hall estate is located in the heart of South Devon. This encompasses one of the finest gardens created in modern times with many beautiful woodland and riverside walks. At the centre is a 14th century medieval courtyard which houses the Great Hall, 11 distinctive conference rooms and 51 very comfortable and attractive bedrooms.

History

Originally built for John Holand, half brother to Richard II, in 1388 Dartington Hall has been called the most spectacular mansion in Devon and is the largest medieval house in the West of England. From beamed ceilings to an etching of a 15th century Spanish Galleon carved onto a wall, history can be discovered all around the courtyard and gardens. The Estate, with its collection of 20th century buildings has been architecturally famous since the 1930’s when it was purchased and renovated by Leonard and Dorothy Elmhirst. Their vision laid the foundations - and created the spirit - upon which present day Dartington is based. For further information please click here >

The White Hart Bar & Restaurant

The White Hart, which is located within the Medieval Courtyard is a place where musicians and artists gather after performances and where local residents and visitors come to unwind and sit outside. Renowned for good food made from local produce the menu has something to suit all tastes, which is why we were nominated in the top 100 gastro pubs by the Guardian.

The bar has an interesting range of wines, organic cider, bottled beers and local fruit juices along with the usual range of beverages. For futher information please click here >

The Gardens

The design of the gardens was co-ordinated by Dorothy Elmhirst and they are recognised as amongst the finest in the country. Discover the 1500 year old Yew tree, the Japanese garden and the 20th century sculptures as you stroll through the glory and dignity of Dartington Hall. For futher information please click here >
